Erst durch einen Hongkong-Trip vor zwölf Jahren (zur Hong Kong Electronics Fair) begann ich damit, mich wirklich intensiv mit der Vielfalt der chinesischen Kochrichtungen zu beschäftigen. Aber schon vorher war die scharfe Küche der Provinz Sichuan meine Lieblingsrichtung. Dass es für mich ähnlich spannende Genüsse wie die Sichuan-Köstlichkeiten auch in der Nachbarstadt Chongqing gibt, erfuhr ich erst im Juli 2016 durch Zufall, als ich in einem Stuttgarter Gastroführer aufs CQ Flavour stieß.

Schon meine erste Stippvisite überzeugte mich – der 16-Minuten-Trip mit der U7 vom Hauptbahnhof gen Osten (Haltestelle Schemppstraße) lohnte sich. Ich probierte „Salat aus Hühnerkeulen (mit Knochen) in scharfer Sauce“ (6,90 Euro, Stand: Oktober 2016) und „Rindfleisch in scharfem Öl (CQF-Art, 13,90 Euro)“. Letzteres war die Variante eines Fischgerichtes, das ich aus meinen chinesischen Lieblingsrestaurants in Hamburg (Golden) und Berlin (Peking Ente) kannte. Das „scharfe Öl“ ist überhaupt nicht fettig, sondern sehr leicht. Eine dominante Geschmacksnote steuert der Sichuan-Pfeffer bei (u. a. auch als Szechuan-, Berg- und Blumenpfeffer bekannt). Er ist nicht wirklich scharf, wirkt aber subtil prickelnd und hinterlässt ein leichtes Gefühl der Taubheit auf Lippen und Zunge.

Die auch ansonsten sehr empfehlenswerte Zeitschrift Effilee hat gerade ein schönes Interview mit dem Sternekoch Vincent Klink veröffentlicht, dessen Stuttgarter Restaurant Wielandshöhe zu meinen jährlichen kulinarischen Highlights zählt: »Die Kennzeichnungspflicht für Allergene ist kompletter Unfug!«

Effilee: Täuscht der Eindruck, dass der Ton zwischen Gästen und Wirten in dieser Sache schon rauer wird?
Vincent Klink: Es gibt leider jede Menge Leute, die vollkommen taktlos daherkommen. Die übersehen, dass der Gastwirt, wenn er sein Angebot in die Karte schreibt, sich etwas dabei denkt. Die Speisekarte ist das Programm des Wirtes und sollte erstmal respektiert werden. Sie gehen ja auch nicht in ein Schubert-Kammerkonzert und schreien plötzlich: „Weg mit den Cellos, die kann ich nicht leiden!“ Wenn man nicht bereit ist, sich auf dies und jenes einzulassen, muss man zu Hause bleiben.

For the first time in years, I was able to thoroughly prepare for the Indian Film Festival / Indisches Filmfestival which starts in Stuttgart/Germany today.

13th River to River. Florence Indian Film Festival: From Ganges to Arno … and Tiber! #R2RFIFF

My final (and favourite!) film festival of the year always is the lovely River to River. Florence Indian Film Festival in Florence/Italy (flickr photo album). This year (2013), its 13th edition will take place from Friday, November 22, until Thursday, November 28, at beautiful Cinema Odeon on Piazza Strozzi, followed by a weekend in Rome (November 29 to December 1) at Nuovo Cinema Aquila, via L’Aquila 68).

The programme has just been released today.

Following 2012’s special guest Amitabh Bachchan (video below), this year’s guest of honour will be Shabana Azmi (photo). Wikipedia: „(…) She made her film debut in 1974 and soon became one of the leading actresses of Parallel Cinema, an Indian New Wave movement known for its serious content and neo-realism. (…) Azmi has appeared in over 120 Hindi films in both mainstream and independent cinema, and since 1988 she has acted in several foreign projects.“

Bollywood and beyond: Looking Back at the 9th Indian Film Festival Stuttgart

The festival formerly known as „Bollywood and beyond“ was highly enjoyable this year (July 18-22, 2012): After several years at the impersonal SI-Centrum, the 9th edition of the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart finally returned to the great Metropol cinema in central Stuttgart. Some of the festival highlights happened at the 5 Bar * Restaurant * Lounge * Club next door – including the impromptu a cappella singing of Tannishtha Chatterjee („Brick Lane“ / „Shadows of Time“) at the opening party (around 1 am).
